Nizwa, the verdant oasis city with its blend of the modern and
the ancient was the capital of Oman during the 6th and 7th
century. One of the oldest cities of the Sultanate, this was
once a center of education and art. The oasis city of Nizwa, the
largest in the interior province, was the capital of Oman in the
6th and 7th centuries. Today it
remains one of the most popular
tourist attractions with its historical buildings and imposing
fort built in the mid 17th century by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al
Ya'ribi. The town's immense palm oasis stretches for eight
kilometers along the course of two wadis. It is famous for its
bustling souq where tourists can buy exquisite copper and silver
jewelry and other craft items.
Beginning in the morning you will
drive through the magnificent Hajar Mountains via Fanja , Sumail
and Izki , stopping at the old town of Birkat Al Mauz. From here
you continue your tour to the township of Nizwa , the ancient
capital of Oman. You will visit the Nizwa Fort built in 1660 and
explore the traditional Nizwa Souq. Then you travel to the
village of Bahla which is placed in the UNESCO's heritage list
with its rich tradition of pottery, weaving and magic then visit
to jibreen castle. You will then commence your return trip to
Muscat bringing with you a very real Omani experience.
